Best morning sickness remedy – chicken and lentil soup

A special remedy to cure nausea during the first trimester. I get a bit of nausea and light food often times help with it. For me, I get hungry literally every 2h but I can’t eat much each time. A delicious, nutritious soup is the perfect solution to this.

Super food #1: Lentils – it is high in iron, folate and fiber, everything you need in your pregnancy especially in your first trimester.

Super food #2: Chicken soup – chicken gives you Vit B12 and the low-fat protein you need for baby, and it is easily absorbed by your body in liquid form


So here we go:

Step 1:

Boil 3 large chicken thighs with 10 cups of water. Use high heat until the water is boiling then reduce the heat to medium (you still want to see big bubbles boiling). Skim off the white foam out of the pot.

Step 2:

Chop 1 large yellow onion into cubes and 1 bulb of garlic [in parallel to step 1]

Step 3:

Fry chopped onion and garlic with extra virgin olive oil until brown. This will release the fragrance and sweetness of onion and garlic when added into the soup.

Step 4:

Once the chicken broth is boiling, add the onions and garlic into the pot.



Step 5:

Some like adding carrots, celery into lentil soup, feel free to do so. But I like a tint of sourness hence I add tomatoes in the soup. After adding tomatoes, cover the pot and let it simmer for 30min, changing the heat to low

Step 6:

Soup is almost ready…. depending on how mushy and thick you like the soup to be, use a blender or hand mixer to mix the vegetables.

Step 7:

Add a pinch of salt to the soup and it is ready! I personally try to avoid sodium hence I don’t add much and I like the natural taste of vegetable and chicken. You can add salt according to your liking.
