How to add meta descriptions and title tags on WordPress – without plugins

It has been almost a month since I started my blog but the traffic I have has been rather miserable still. Hence, I did a bit of digging around and found one of the SEO techniques to increase traffic is to fill in the meta descriptions and title tags in your posts as this will help search engines define your website more accurately.

After doing a bit of research, it seems like the most common and easiest way of doing that is to download Yoast SEO, or any other SEO plugins. You will also need to upgrade WordPress to business plan in order to get plugins, and unfortunately I am not willing to pay the extra every month.

Luckily, I found another way of doing this by coding manually – check out Codex. They include codes that you can copy, paste on top of your html page, and edit by replacing with your description.

I have simply no idea if this would work. At least I tried this formula in one of my latest article and I was not able to see the meta description when I publish it. Hopefully it has already been embedded.

Given I am super new to this, those out there who are knowledgeable about this can you please post comments / feedback below to let me know if I am doing it the right way. Thank you so much!
